I would like to welcome you to my Aviation and Airline blog. I started the blog, because I wanted to tell the story of how I started flying as an 18 year old high school senior, worked for many different aviation companies to build flight hours and experience, and now, almost 30 years later, I am an Airbus Captain for a major airline in the United States. By telling my story, I hoped to enlighten young, hopeful pilots about the fulfilling and sometimes frustrating world of aviation.
At the end of 2012, the aging airline pilot community in the United States will start an increasing amount of retirements. Predictions indicate that this will cause a shortage of qualified pilots in the coming years. Internationally, the shortage has already begun and will be far more severe than in this country. You will find posts on the blog having to do with aviation and airline training based on my experiences. I am certainly not an expert, and there are many experienced and dedicated instructors whose knowledge far exceeds mine. That being said, I have been in many different training environments over the years. Hopefully you can get a sense of the rigorous training pilots must endure to remain qualified.
- Also, I have included an Aviation Quiz category that will allow you to test your aviation knowledge. Subjects cover FAA regulations, visual flight rules, instrument flight rules, basic aircraft systems and aerodynamics. Hopefully, this will encourage readers to post comments and actively participate in the blog. My goal is to communicate with others that are as passionate about aviation as I am.
Once again, thank you for visiting Michael’s Aviation Blog. I look forward to hearing from you.
